Of Charlie Brown-esque trees and whatnot

Blog roll post

As you can see the blog roll is alive again. Maybe now I will remember to post more. A snowball's chance in hell of that happening but I have hope. I am rather idiotic. So today's topic is Christmas memories.

Now, I love Christmas. Christmas Eve to be more exact. It the second best day of the year(after my birthday). What's not to like? There's food and chocolate and chocolate and more chocolate. Did I mention the chocolate? Every year we'd get a nice tree, then try to make the same old and tired string of lights work(seriously, the things are 35 years old. They don't work anymore. We still try them every year.). Of course, every year our nice tree always looks exactly like the Charlie Brown tree once we get it home. No problem, it's still loved. We also repeat this story every single year(seriously, if you haven't read it last year go do it now. It's awesome...but why trust me, after all I've written it! You should check it out. It's here)* And then we go on our merry(get it...merry? I kill me) separate ways. Too much family time can kill.

Ok, back on topic. Christmas memories. You see, I always had a Santa growing up. Some family friend would dress up as Santa and come to our house and make me tell him a poem or sing. It was nice. But fore some reason, the Christmas that sticks in my mind is the one 5 years ago. You see, for the 2 weeks prior to the day, I had been angry and sad. My boyfriend then had cheated on me, which is the-end-of-the-world, woe-is-me, what-ever-shall-I-do now for any respectable 16 year old girl. We had had a major blow-up on Christmas Eve. It was not good. So, that Christmas I went to my favourite pub and hung out with the bartender(a good friend), made fun of all the kids trying to sneak up and buy alcohol, laughed when the computer played the same stupid carol for the third time in an hour(it hated us. Really. It did.) and just relaxed. No stress, no fighting, no anger. And then the boyfriend came, apologized and all was good once more in the land of the repeating carols.

Before I go here is a picture of me and Santa!

(Warning: the following picture contains some nudity but is completely SFW).

(See what I mean about the tree? They all look so sad and pathetic).

I was not going to put my doll down! I did not trust that man! Evident in this picture:

*Looks around sheepishly* I'm sorry

Well, can we pretend it's weekend? Or Monday? Nope? Oh, well. Sorry but life is crazy. I am studying. Lots and lots of studying. And Nano-ing. And with both those things going on and somewhat of a social life I really don't have that much time left for blogging. But I will be better, I promise. Or at least try to be better.

Let's see what you've missed.

  • I messed up a lab two weeks ago. It took me 7 labs to fuck things up so it's not bad. Oh well, I still got a decent grade on it. Of course, this Monday I was completely terrified that I was going to mess things up again.
  • The people who write my tutorial sheets are fun. I had one that said something like “You were visiting a chemical plant and fell into a vat with an unknown (but harmless!) substance).” Well, thank god I didn't fall into acid then, right?
  • My kitchen is crazy. I will have to learn to live without food because every time I go there there is someone who will distract me. And I welcome the distraction.
  • I'm behind on my nano. In fact, I have my laptop with me today to catch up with that, instead of this. Oh, damn it, sleep is for the weak and I will win.
  • I bought my plane tickets for Christmas. Expect lots of “I'm boooooreeeeed” entries. I am still a whining baby.
  • I'm trying to make time to go get a tattoo. That's my birthday/Christmas/nano present to myself. Sadly, I would have to take my chem books with me right now. Bro, if you are reading this, don't tell mum.
  • I'm turning British, according to my best friend. Apparently now I have an accent. I have threatened to smack her if she calls me Madonna.
  • But it's not so bad. In fact, I could write a list called “You know you're turning British when...”. It would include the use of the words “chips” and “loo” in normal conversation without thinking about it. Yes, I say chips.
  • I have learned how to do laundry. It's not so bad. Just expensive. But seeing as I don't have time to breathe lately I now have to schedule time in my week planner for laundry. Yes, I have an entry that says “laundry”. If that's not sad I don't know what is.
  • And, yes, I am mostly busy with studying, contrary to what some people think*pointed looks*. And sleep. Sheesh, I miss sleep. It was nice, right? I actually fell asleep hugging my chem notes on Monday night. Feel free to mock this and the previous statement.
  • And while we're in the “let's mock Addie” mood I also have scheduled “get drunk”. It's in my week planner. I would die without that thing. But I have to drink on Friday night. Mostly because I have an exam on Friday. Wish me luck.
  • I think I am moving in with Latvian flatmate and a couple of other friends next year. Who knew you had to start looking in December?
I am sure there are more things but I can't think of anything else right now. Oh, yeah, my blog is 1 year old! Everybody, wish blog a Happy birthday!!! I'd sing but then everybody would run. My thanks to everyone who drops by here and of course, special thanks to those who comment. *hands slices of cake*

Happy birthday, blog!

Short entry(again!)

Sorry for the lack of posts lately. Life is hectic. I'll try to update the blog sometime this weekend. Or next week. I'm trying, ok? In other news, the Queen is coming to visit my uni in 2 weeks! I'm gonna see the Queen! How exciting is that? Yes, I am a geek.

And just to make you laugh:

Brilliant, isn't it?

Things I learned today

Putting as many marshmallows as possible in a cup of hot chocolate, while it may sound like a good idea, is disgusting. Really, really disgusting.

Spilling said hot chocolate on your hands burns.

Burns hurt. I knew this already but apparently a refresher course was needed.

Everything is better when there is ice cream.

Saying “Tonight I really am going to bed early” is tempting fate.

There is no going to bed early for university students.

No matter how far away you are people will still call you to complain that their computers don't work.

Plane tickets are bloody expensive.

Lab reports do not write themselves up, no matter how much you wish they did.

Oh, yeah, lab reports suck.

Dr. Martens are the greatest, most awesome, most amazing, most anything shoes ever.

If you hug your shoes people will think you're weird.

Weird is apparently the synonym for cool at uni.

Too many toffee apples are bad for you.

So is chasing people with said toffee apples.

And being chased with toffee apples.

Toffee stains will never get out of clothes.

But that's ok because Primark rules.

Sleep is overrated.

Monty Python and the Holy Grail is the greatest kitchen film night ever.

Uni rules.

Old

You know what's it like to feel really old? But really, really old? When you're talking about movies with someone(Steve, if you remember him) and that someone asks this: “So, you actually saw that film in the theatre? I was too young to go. Were people actually crying?”

It only gets worse from here...

(And the movie in question was Titanic, in case you were curious).

A few pictures

I'll write a longer blog post later today or tomorrow detailing my lack of plot and love of Starbucks but for now some pictures I took yesterday:

The chemistry building, where I spend way too much time each day(lately if I don't have classes I'm in the chem library. Yes, I'm sad).It looks worse in reality.

And another one of the chemistry building, from the bus station where the bus that goes to town goes(the que across the street is where the bus for the halls stops). And if you look on the left of the picture you'll see the building were genetic fingerprinting was invented. Cool, isn't it?

And the last one, the cemetary across the street from my uni(yes, we have a cemetary across the street).

Movie night

Tonight I was supposed to go to a Chemistry society meeting but seeing as they forgot to email people with the “when and where” they're meeting...I hope they had fun. And right now I'm supposed to be sleeping. Seeing as it's 3.30 AM and I have to wake up early tomorrow and write my lab report(I'd write it tonight but I'm lazy and I've been drinking so it might not be my best work ever). So yeah, instead of the ChemSoc meeting I had a film night with the guy I usually sit next to in class(sheesh...I should really start giving out nicknames...how about I call him Steve from now on?). We tried to watch “The Exorcist” but we mostly ended up talking. And to think I didn't go to the EEuSoc(Eastern European Society) bar crawl because I wanted to sleep tonight. Oh, well. Steve's nice. And I'm adopting Nano newbies. I love Nano newbies. Of course, I still don't have a plot but I think I can find some free time tomorrow or Friday and go to my cafĂ© or maybe even a Starbucks and try to conjure one. Right now I have a slut and a haunted house which will probably not make the cut for this year's novel.

But I'm staying away from Nano talk right now because I have to complain. You know how bad the coffee is on campus? Seriously, it's bad. As in really bad. As in “I'd rather have instant coffee back in the halls then that” bad. Of course I still drink it because with morning classes I'd be dead without coffee and there's no way in hell I'm waking up before I have to to make coffee but if I take the whatever.10 bus I have time to drink a cup on the bench in front of the chemistry building. But it's still bad. Gah. I need good coffee.

Over and out...I'm going back to my lab report.

Send comments. I'm feeling ignored.

A plot!My kingdom for a plot!

It's October and you know what that means...it's almost time for NaNoWriMo! *heavy sighs from the audience* Now, those of you who were here last year might remember that I am not exactly in the best or sanest of moods during nano. So yeah, this is going to be hilarious. The great part is that this year I have a nano group near me, so I can go to meetings and stuff, which hopefully will keep me a bit saner then last year and that I am adopting some newbies to help thru this. The bad part is that this year I have uni and some flatmates who might just start running once they see me walking around the kitchen, talking to my characters and having my 20th cup of coffee of the day. Or maybe call the men in white coats to take me away.

And oh, yeah, I still don't have a plot. Oh this is gonna be fun

Give me more hours in a day!

I have no idea where all my time goes. I'm sorry. I'm trying. The time eating monster is after me. First comes the “How I played with a sword” story and then the boring update(and a couple of pictures! I actually have some pictures this time! Exciting, ain't it?).

Soooo....I went to the Viking meeting last Sunday. I had fun(no pictures of that, sorry, but I did get to wear a huge metal helmet padded with smelly fur on the inside. I don't recommend it). Now, you all know I am not exactly the sanest person in the whole wide world. Not by far. What you didn't know is that I am probably the only person in the whole wide world who thinks sword fighting is boring. I wanted to pull out a book while training. It was that boring. But the great part is that we also did archery training and I loved that. Just call me Wilhelm Tell! I even have battle wounds(yes, still do, despite the fact that this was 5 days ago). You know why archers wear those big leather thingies on their hands when they're shooting? Neither did I before last Sunday, don't worry( I'm talking about these, people). Because apparently if you don't wear them or if you are like me, and wear a short one, you get bruised when the string of the bow goes back after you shoot. You live and learn. I've been showing my war wounds to random people(no, I'm not going around and showing strangers my bruise...it's more like “And how with the Vikings?” “Great, wannaseemybruisedoyoudoyoudoyou?”. They might think I'm disturbed. Sadly that was my only training so far because apparently they like to work chemistry students and the Vikings were preparing the sword fighters for the battle tomorrow. Maybe next week(and don't worry, I'm not going to post pictures of my bruises here-although I have some. That's disgusting even for me).

I wrote my first lab report this week. It wasn't so bad. If only Julya(my melting point machine, of course) didn't hate me. It's hard to explain(well, not hard but long and I am too lazy to type it all up and plus it's quite boring). Suffice to say I spent 2 and a half hours out of three and a half hours watching tiny tubes filled with substances with impossible names and waiting for them to melt. My life is so exciting. The other hour was spent trying to get substances with the impossible names into tiny tubes. *sings “Don't you wish your life was hot like mine?”*

Nothing else exciting is happening. I'm not sure I have time for anything to happen. I bought ear plugs and then remembered I hate ear plugs. I'm probably gonna go tomorrow and take a walk around the city so there might be some more pictures. If I gte up too late I'll just leave it for Sunday. Or Tuesday(Mondays are crazy.)

And now for the three pictures you have all been waiting for!

But to get them, we shall play a guessing game! Gather round, children!

Who can guess what was the first thing I bought in England? Come on, don't be shy! I won't stick you in the melting point machine if you get it wrong, I promise. Any guesses? Scroll down for the answer!

.Well done! Of course it was coffee!

And now for your prize(clicks make them bigger...it's magic or something). This is Victoria Park, the absolutely lovely place that is right next to my uni. Jealous?

(I don't really like how this picture turned out but I'm posting it anyway so you can see my uni and the three towers. The one in the middle supposedly looks like a cheese grater. I wonder how many beers you have to drink before you can see that one!)

This is the perfect place if you want to read in the grass or watch big guys playing sports. For the love of the sports, of course, nothing more!

And this is one of the paths...lovely, isn't it?

Hello, my name is Addie...

And I'm a movieholic. *crowd mumbles “Hello, Addie!”*

I swear I don't mean to. I'm trying to be good. But how can I when they have a huge sale at HMV and I had a student discount? I finally understand the magic of sales. Especially when on sale is the “Jack Nicholson collection: the early years”. Which includes “The wild ride”!!! Not excited? Weirdos....

Of course, I think my flatmates think I'm the weirdo. I keep bringing home bags from HMV and being my usual self...yeah, that doesn't work that well. Apparently it's not normal to buy 10 tiny boxes of chocolate stuff(6 of chocolate mousse and 4 of chocolate pudding). They claim to be chocolate lovers but they do not understand...The love for chocolate...it burns. That and the fact that the chocolate pudding is 4 for 46p at ASDA. How can I say no to that? Especially after I've spent 100£ on books...Damned school, it's taking away all my money. They also think it's shocking that someone can live of peanut butter and frozen meals. So I tried to prove them wrong and today I bought noodles. You know, just add hot water stuff. Even I can cook that. Oh, and toast. I also cook toast. A lot of toast. Well, I'm just ready to be married, aren't I? With such great cooking skills...*

Ah, also I went to my first Viking society meeting on Thursday. They're really nice and they quote Monty Python like crazy. I think I'm gonna fit right in. Tomorrow I have my first training session and, if all goes well next week, I might actually get to be in a battle next weekend! How exciting is that? I'll try not to have my eyes poked out(you don't want to know...trust me). I'll see if they let me try on the gear tomorrow and if they do, maybe have someone snap a picture so I can post it(yes, I know I keep saying that I'm going to post pictures but seriously, I have no clue where all my time goes. It's odd. Contact Agent Mulder.)

On Monday I have my first chemistry lab which should be exciting. I won't get to play with any chemicals just yet so don't worry. However, starting week 3(so the 13th I think), if you see a cloud of smoke over Leicester or you hear on the news about an explosion...I'm sorry. I didn't mean to.

Over and out.

*the room mates refers to, in this paragraph, to the really nice Latvian girl, who really likes healthy food(as in she's been here a week and already knows where to buy vegetables and fruit cheap) and the Cypriot girl, who doesn't quite get my love of chocolate. The English girl is still gone 20 hours a day and apparently a noodles fan as well because I think the other two would rather die then eat that stuff. They're quite good actually.

Notes from the road and virginity

OK, so I lied in yesterday’s post and I won’t post pictures today. I’m lazy. But while I’m waiting for my frozen dinner to get ready I though I could just type these notes up and post them for your entertainment.

Thursday 7:55

I’m in the waiting room, obviously waiting for my plane to board. I’m sure that this is the time when I should get all excited but I’m not. I’m twitchy but that might be because I’ve had gargantuan amounts of coffee. Can I just chalck it up to being nervous? Can I, can I, please?

The drive here was...well, a nightmare. Being stuck in a car with mum and dad is no one’s idea of a good time. Frankly, sticking needles in my eyes would have been so much better. And add the fact that we left way too early so we got to the airport at 5AM. For an 8.35 flight. Awesome, ain’t it?

Still Thursday, 9:30 AM, airplane

I think people think I’m insane. Of course, it doesn’t help that the first thing I did once I got in my seat was to check the twisty knob thingy on the tray(it has a name, I’m sure it has a nname but...meh) and see if it breaks off. I’ve seen Final Destination one too many times, me thinks. It also doesn’t help that I giggle every time the plane shakes a bit because I’m reminded of the way too many Final Destination conversations I’ve had with a friend. Why, yes, we are obsessed. Oh, and if I look out the window at the wing I remember the stupid scene at the begining of(no, not Final Destination this time) Urban Legends 2(great series, you should definitely watch at least Urban Legends 1 and maybe even 2....skip 3 though...that one went from not-so great like 2 to just-shoot-me-now-have-they-even-seen-the-first-films-make-it-stop! bad).

Yeah, so nothing too exciting, but then again when have I ever been exiting? Well, maybe just now, when I announce that I’m no longer a virgin.

A Cherry Coke virgin...what did you think? You people have filthy minds, you know that, right? You see, we don’t have Cherry Coke back home...how ever did I live without it? Tomorrow I’m going to end my Dr. Pepper virginity as well.

By the way, the frozen dinner was disgusting. Now I’m hungry.

Cheerio, mates!

Greetings from jolly old England! Did you miss me? Did you, did you? Well, fine then, I didn’t miss you either. I really don’t have that much to report, it’s all still a blur and probably going to keep being this way for at least the first 2 weeks. I’m meeting loads of people, my flatmates are...quiet. Well, one’s quiet, one’s really nice and the third one is barely ever here. My room is decent, I’ll post some pictures tomorrow after I take the trash out. The city itself is like a postcard, especially now with fallen leaves everywhere and the walk to uni is really pretty(not that I’m gonna walk that often, it’s a good 45-50 minutes walk). Lots of red brick houses, but I expected that and I love them. Most of the people are incredibly nice, everyone’s smiling and happy...it’s odd. I’m just going to go to bed now and I’ll be back soon with a more complete account of my journey and adventures so far.

How do I pack my life in a suitcase?

How do I decide what stays and what comes with me? Do I take the Coca-Cola metal signs that I’ve looked for in 5 shops and then dragged them all the way back from Paris with me? The Martini glass print that never quite fit anywhere but which I love nonetheless? Which one of the metal tins I’ve gathered do I take? The teddy bear I’ve had for as long as I can remember? Do I take any of the countless greeting cards I’ve gotten over the years and that I’ve kept for no apparent reason? What stays? What goes? How do I pick from the piles of memories? And more importantly…how do I pack a giant puppy in my suitcase so that no one notices?

I’m not really sentimental. I will probably leave most of these things behind(although gosh, darn it, I am taking the Coca-Cola signs and the Martini print…I love them way to much). I just felt like being mushy for a bit.

So, this is it folks. I probably won’t have time to post anything else before I leave and I’ll be offline for a few days until I buy a laptop. Wish me luck…I’m going in!

And on a completely unrelated note…how awesome were the new Heroes episodes? Spoiler ahead:

Sylar and Peter and Nathan are brothers! How great is that?

Also am I the only one disappointed that Sylar doesn’t eat the brains(not only because if he did eat them that would killed Claire, but it would have been so much cooler)? But still… "That’s disgusting”? looool

You missed him, right?

You know that as a proud fur-mommy it is my sacred duty to kill you with pictures every once in a while, right? Well, I have some free time and I can't sleep right now so I've decided that there's no better time then the present to fulfill that duty so without further ado, here is puppy!

He almost looks small here, doesn't he?

Well, maybe not so small...

I give you the "I'm innocent! I didn't do it!" look...how can I punish him when he does this to me?

Either he has big paws or I have really small hands...

And my favourite picture of all time...how can you not love him?

Not even exciting things…

…can make my life exciting. You’d think that with less then a week left before I move my life would be the least be interesting. Not so much so. Actually, in the past weeks it’s been mostly shopping, starring at the rain outside, more shopping, wondering when the rain will stop, some more shopping, bad films, really bad films, it can’t be possible for a film to be this bad(this honor goes to Bats: Human Harvest…oh, yeah), Monty Python, more shopping in case I wasn’t already bloody tired of all the shopping. Oh, and some sleeping in the downtime. Exciting, right? Almost as exciting as me buying giraffe jammies. It’s sad. Other people have going away parties and cakes that say “We will miss you” .Oh, and other then giraffe jammies(why yes, I am proud of them, why do you ask?) I bought a huge stack of hair clips and then decided I might just cut my hair after all. Or I might not. It’s still up for debate right now. Sheesh, I’m talking about hair cuts and jammies. That’s how boring life is. Thankfully Heroes starts in a few days and if the spoilers are right, the first episode might be the most exciting ever. Heck, I could watch them cut grass and still be happy because damn, I miss Heroes. As long as they do it naked. Cut the grass naked, in case my thought process isn’t clear for everybody. But just the boys and Ali Larter.

Who knows, maybe the hit man will come kill me after all today!

The greatest spam ever!

This is the last time you will hear from me because I am apparently going to be dead in 48 hours! I’ve gotten all types of spam over the years, many of them offering me tons of money, telling me I won a lottery I never even heard of and offering to help me enlarge my you-know-what naturally. Of course that after taking them up on every single one of these offers I am a gorgeous billionaire with a giant tinkle so someone wants me dead. But no problem because the nice hitman(or hitwoman, I don’t want to be sexist) sent me an email to warn me about it! Isn’t that sweet of him? And for the low, low price of 15000 dollars I can live! What a bargain. So now for your reading pleasure I give you the hitman’s email. I just have to live on the wild side and tempt my fate, right?

contact you and see if your life is Important to you or not since their
findings shows that you are innocent.

I called my client back
and ask her of your email address which I didn't tell her what I wanted
to do with it and she gave it to me and I am using it to contact you
now. As I am writing to you now my men are monitoring you and they are
telling me everything about you.

It's official

As of a few hours ago I’m officially a University of Leicester student! *happy dance* I’ve registered online and I even got a cool UoL email address. How cool is that? Other then that nothing much to report. I have a big shopping spree planned for tomorrow so keep your fingers crossed that it doesn’t rain again and ruin my plans(I’ve already postponed this twice…at this pace I won’t have socks at uni).

Also George Takei(of Star Trek and Heroes fame) got married this weekend to his long time partner. Check out an article online here (and how cute is the third picture?).

The last time

Ok, so I’ve been a bit busy lately and haven’t had much time to write, not to mention I’ve been feeling lousy. Nothing bad, I’m just a bit sick. But I am not here to complain about being sick, but I am here to complain about a movie. It’s been a while.

Being a fan of both horror movies and foreign movies, I had so much hope for [Rec]. Everyone said it was brilliant. The comments on imdb said it was really scary. Heck, this movie got awesome reviews and a 93% rating on rottentomatoes. I had it all set: the room was dark and quiet. I really wanted to like it. But I didn’t. Some spoilers ahead so if you haven’t seen it and want to, you can go look at this video of my puppy!

Ok, so I am not very fond of the whole Blair Witch Project style of filming but they did a good job on this, I’ll give them that. After a really boring intro part that made me reach for my coffee you get to the action and then the movie really starts sucking. I’d try to describe it but the best way I can think of is as a mix between Blair Witch and Dawn of the Dead, only with far less zombies/monsters/people contaminated by an awful virus. The only part I found remotely scary was near the end when they go in the attic and a scary face appears and that was scary only because I’m jumpy and people coming out of nowhere scare me. Heck, you can scare me if you come behind me and say “boo!”. Waiters scare me if they appear suddenly at my table. You get the point, right? The only satisfying thing about this movie is that they all die at the end(much like Dawn of the Dead again…gosh, I hate that movie). Seriously this movie goes something like this: boring parts, guys walk into an apartment, angry bitch bites and infects them, people carry them down, they sit and wait there while they debate what’s happening and what they can do, attack after someone explains that they have been infected, people manage to lock them in a room for a while, another one of the healthy ones turns into a monster, they fight for a while, the first guys escape, infect everyone else and they start developing symptoms right away and go after our poor main characters And someone please explain to me how in all heck the guys on the gurneys sat there all nice and quiet, not attacking anyone while the doctor took care of their wounds only to attack when the guy in the big yellow suit said thy were infected? Their explanation? The time it takes for you to turn into a monster depends on the blood type. Yeah. So what about the little girl? I guess she has AB and that’s why she waited patiently until all the characters thought they were safe to attack, right? Give me a break. I know this probably doesn’t make sense if you haven’t seen the movie but there is no better way to explain it.

So yeah, there you have it. I hate [Rec]. But I will probably still see the Hollywood remake of it, just for the heck of it.

This is the last time I try to get a movie just because people say it’s awesome.

Apparently we’re all gonna die tomorrow

Those of you with lives, that don’t spend all their free time online or watching the news might not know that we’re all gonna die but thankfully, here I am, informing you. Or if we don’t die tomorrow we’re gonna die in December 2012 like the Mayans said but it all starts tomorrow, so ya’ see, it’s still tomorrow’s fault. Poor tomorrow. Ok so what started this almost Y2K madness? This. Ok, you see I accept the fact that I have almost no idea what the guys are doing there but I assume they know so I’m not worried. Others are and I am enjoying all the panicked folks going crazy. Yes, I’m starved for entertainment. My favorites are the ones that have absolutely no clue what they’re talking about(kinda like me) but still feel the need to comment on it(again, kinda like me). It’s just so cute when you see someone say that we don’t need time travel so we should stop the experiment(please tell me how exactly did we get to time travel?) or someone who is actually convinced that the Earth will end(what would you do if you were sure you only had a few hours left?). There are also those who are convinced that if we don’t die then god will punish us, so it’s a lose-lose situation or the terrorist nuts who have now decided that Bin Laden will crash an airplane into the whole thing(never mind that it’s underground, ok? Those are just details). And of course, then you have me, who just can’t stop reading and mocking all the stupid comments.

Yes, I’m bored(and also completely fascinated by this experiment but that just the nerd in me speaking).

But just in case you see a big black hole over Europe tomorrow, send help my way!

(Also, how ironic would it be if the world actually exploded or whatever else the nuts think might happen and this would be my last blog entry?)

I am boooored

But really, really bored. Luckily I have a busy weekend ahead of me which will save me from killing myself out of boredom. Busy doing what, you ask? Well, nothing exciting. Unless you’re me, because then it’s exciting. You see, the gods of tv have decided to shower me with gifts in the next 50-something hours and gave me Apocalypse Now, Silence of the lambs and Hannibal(these two are in the same night and on two different channels…odd, but who am I to question the gods?) and Surviving Picasso. I’m a happy sailor.

Of course, I also have to deal with family visits again this weekend. Geez, don’t this people have homes? Ok, so it’s basically different people if we don’t count bro but still…why do I have to be part of the wedding talk? What did I ever do wrong? I guess I’ll just have to hide until they leave. I am sooooo never getting married(don't quote me on that, folks...I might change my mind).

Also, I’m paranoid. Yeah, not news but I’m really paranoid. Every time I get a letter from the university I look at it for the 50 second walk from the mail box to the house hoping they’re not announcing that there’s been some kind of huge error and they’re not letting me in anymore. I did this today only to find out the letter I had been staring was a correction to something they'd sent me earlier. Can you tell I really want to go?

And before I go, just further proof that I’m a geek. Seriously there is no hope left for me. You know what I did yesterday(I know you can’t know but I like asking redundant questions)? I had written something in a notebook(chemistry notes, nothing earth shattering) and before I closed the notebook I looked for the “save” button, because I didn’t want to loose what I’d just written. Oh, yeah…I wanted to save my handwritten notes. Put me out of my misery.

True loves

Do you believe that everyone has one true love? Has there ever been "one who got away" in your life?

Blog roll post

Short answer? No. Imagine what a sad world we’d live in if one had just one true love. You’d have to wait, love just a half of what you’re actually capable of loving because you haven’t met the one that’s meant to be your true love. And doesn’t actually the whole idea of one true love(I’m not talking about “the one” here for now, I’ll get to that in a second) belittle every other love in one’s life? Isn’t it like saying “every other love you’ve had was fake”? “Every time you’ve had your heart broken or suffered didn’t matter because it wasn’t your true love”?

Now we move to the subject of the one. While it might seem like I’m contradicting myself, I think that there could actually be the one. But for me the one is more like the one that you fit with perfectly, rather then the one you love like you’ve never loved anyone else before. People love wrong ones every day. Heck, how could you even know you’ve found the one if you didn’t find the wrong ones before? Are you supposed to walk around the world waiting to hear a choir singing from the skies just as your eyes meet and you’re smitten forever?

As for the one that got away? Nope, sorry. Sure there are a few cases of bad timing and “we could have had a good relationship had we met sooner/later/in a parallel universe” but no one that will make me pull out pictures/notes/whatever in 20-30 years and think of what might have been.

So there you have it. A little different then usual and lacking bad jokes but yeah…As always look in the bar on the right, under “Blog roll tour” to see what others think of this.

Smell that?

Open a window or go outside. Go on, do it. I’ll wait. Ok, done? It smells like fall, people! And yes, I’m excited. For the past 2 days it’s been nice and cold here. Not cold in the “turn on the heating” way but in the “grab a blanket and remember to take a jacket with you” way. The grapes are almost done(why yes, I have grapes in my yard…jealous? :D) and it’s just so nice outside. I love fall. Almost as much as I love snow. Not to mention that today I ripped the page out of my calendar and found myself staring at a big red circle. Yay! Ok, so I’m definitely excited now! 23 days to go! *happy dance*

My hate list

I’m way too lazy to spend a lot of time hating people but lately these people are annoying me to no end. So I decided to do the grown-up thing and bitch about them in my blog. Aren’t I mature?

3. People who post in my student forum and then start complaining that their teachers never explained anything to them so it’s their fault they didn’t get into uni. Sorry, mates but I did this all by myself and I’m not particularly brilliant. I have one of the worst personal statements in the world(it’s so bad I’m half expecting people to point and laugh). Let me say this once and for all: go to the UCAS website because I promise it’s all written there. I pinky swear. And if you didn’t get in it’s your own bloody damn fault for being an idiot.

2. Obama. You know why I hate Obama? Because I am not an American. Because, while American politics sort of interest me I really don’t want to see him every time I turn on my TV, in my own damn country. Because, I have no clue who is running at our elections in November but I can probably remember Obama’s mother name. Because when I want to read celebrity gossip I’d rather not read about politics but something completely frivolous, like someone sleeping with someone else, instead of what happened at the latest Democratic convention.

1. Michael Phelps. Of for the love of all things, I get it. We all get it. He won 8 Olympic gold medals. Does that make him funny? Nope, it doesn’t. Then why is he going to host SNL? He’s a great role model for kids but I am just so sick and tired of him being everywhere. He’s on every other page on one of my frivolous celebrity gossip websites. Just go away, will you?

0.01

Looking back, what minor event in you life made a major outcome on how things turned out?

Blog roll post

6 years ago I walked to my school one morning to get my results for a really big exam. Now don’t go asking for details because I can’t really remember that day, just what followed. The grade for that exam combined with my grades from school would determine what high school I was going to go to. So, I got the grade and then I applied to the high school I really, really, really but really wanted to go to. And then results day came…The last grade was 8.84. I had 8.83*. So I had failed by exactly 0.01 points. Depressing, right? Ah, but now comes the twist that leads to the happy ending(hopefully, that ending is still far away). I loved the high school I ended going at. I loved even more then I would have loved the first one. I made a wonderful friend there, met my first big real crush there, spent so much time in the coffee shop across the street I probably paid for the remodeling they did the summer after I finished high school and generally had a ton of fun there. So yeah, that’s how 0.01 points can change things.

*Fun fact: This is also the grade I got at the end of high school exam. Apparently it’s chasing me around :D

As usual, look to the right to see other people writing on this topic. Oh, and sorry this is short but I’m tired and my brain is goo.

The story of Pic, the water game and the evil mommy

At least three times a day me and Pic(the dog, in case you haven’t learned that by now) play this game:

Addie picks up the water bowl.
Pic watches closely because Addie is touching HIS stuff.
Addie empties the water bowl in the sink.
Pic wonders why Addie is doing that.
Addie turns on the faucet and takes some water in her hand.
Pic watches innocently.
Addie splashes the water in Pic’s face.
Pic runs away like he’s the little girl in the “Exorcist” and someone just threw holy water at him.
Addie laughs.
Pic tries to hide behind the wire fence or in the grapevine.
Addie laughs even harder.
Pic looks from behind the fence/bush.
Addie tries not to die laughing at his stealth techniques.
Pic takes a step forward.
Addie turns off the faucet and puts the bowl down.
Pic comes closer.
Addie splashes water again in his face.
Pic runs with a “You devil woman, you! I’m melting, I’m melting” look in his eyes.
Addie dies laughing.
The end.

I’ll try to post pictures if I can get close enough with the camera(I promise I’m usually a better pup-mommy).

Um…yikes!

*infomercial girl voice* “Now if you will all look at the right side of the page you will notice an authentic, state of the art, lovely ticker that will inform you that I have just one month left until I leave.*back to my normal self*

As our gorgeous(oy, who am I kidding here?) infomercial girl has announced I have one month left. That’s it, folks, one month. And guess what? I am not freaking out. Yep, that’s right, me, the queen of over thinking, over analyzing and over freaking is not the least bit panicked. And I’m not even drunk :D! *shocked gasps from the audience* Might be ‘cause I’m keeping busy watching movies. A lot of movies. I’m trying to get thru every DVD I’ve gathered over the years and haven’t watched in at least a year because boy, I’m gonna miss ‘em. I’m also doing a list with films I want to watch in my last night at home(which will be tricky because I have to move my computer to mum’s room but hey…life sucks). So far I have Final Destination 1 on that list and I’m trying to see if I can find the movie with killer ants on a plane(yes, there is such a movie…amazingly informative blog I have here…how did you live without knowing there is a movie with ants on a plane?) or if I’ll have to settle for Snakes on a Plane. Any other plane disaster films you want to recommend? Ok, going off the film wagon for a while and on to praising the amazing man who thought of Facebook because I’ve already met one of the girls in my course and one of my flat mates. So yes, I’m keeping busy the film/computer geek way. Other then that…I’ve bought my magic suitcase(of course, you have no clue why it’s my magic suitcase because I didn’t post that particular blog entry but you can insert a rant about bloody suitcases here and save us all the trouble). It’s absolutely huge(bet it’s not gonna seem so huge when I have to pack everything in it?) and pretty. Now I have to learn to operate a washing machine(fine, laugh all you want but I will learn gosh darn it!), wash everything I own and then wait patiently(ha!) while watching coughGilmoreGirlscough for the last month to pass. Should be fine, right(my famous last words…)?

Well, aren’t you a genius?

Just a bit of dialogue I caught at the film fest last week that I had to share(I have a witness, I swear).

[the acoustic version of I don’t want to miss a thing is playing]
Guy: And this song, you know?
Girl: What about it?
Guy: It’s from that movie.
Girl: What movie?
Guy: The one with Bruce Willis. You know the guy from Lethal Weapon 1, 2, 3 and 4?
Girl: Oh, yeah, what about him?
Guy: Well, he was in that movie where they played this song but I can’t remember what it’s called but it’s the only movie in which Bruce Willis dies, ya’ know? The only movie in which he dies.
Girl: Really?
Guy: Yeah…and it’s the acoustic version.

Me thinks someone really shouldn’t be at a film fest.

Land of the shooting stars

So, I’m back. Of course since I didn’t post that I was going away you might have thought I was just being lazy again but in fact I was in the bloody middle of nowhere at a film festival. At the “Anonimul” Film Festival(click here for the official page). First off let me tell you a bit about the location. Remember when I said two sentences ago that this is in the middle of nowhere? I meant it. It’s in the Danube Delta and you can only get there by boat(more about why I fucking hate those boats later). So we arrive there Monday evening(not really evening more around 5PM-ish), walk the approximately 1.5 miles from the pier to the camp site, pay and go set up the tent. All goes well until we get to the stakes part. Apparently the ground hates me and is frozen solid(why yes, I do have Yossarian complex, why do you ask?). We kind of get them in, pray that our backpacks are heavy enough to keep the thing down and then we try to tie the ropes. Well, uh, I’ve only had the tent for 6 years how was I supposed to know that the pegs used for the ropes are supposed to go in at an angle? Yes, I suck at camping. After all this is done we go and look for coffee because gosh, darn it, I’ve been without coffee for a full 6 hours. We find coffee, or what they try to pass as coffee but seeing as the only other place that sells coffee is back near the pier…coffee, good!

Other then that it was boring. We’d wake up at 8-9 in the morning, go drink coffee, wait for the sun to move then go sleep/read under a fence and maybe if we were feeling energetic enough walk to the village or the sea(two different directions and a long walk either way). Then at 6 we’d plunk down at a good table, have more coffee, try to decide what to eat, eat and then watch movies and drink. Oh, yeah an exciting life. Friday we met a couple of guys, one of which really, but really, really looked like Rudolf Martin when he had his sunglasses on, but way less when he took them off(clicky here to see how Rudolf looks with glasses). Sad. They saved me and my friend from killing each other so it was all good in the ed. But dang, why did he have to take the glasses off? Did I mention I have a thing for Rudolf Martin? ‘Cause I do.

The worst part was the boat. We decide to go home Saturday morning. We get up at 6, pack the tent, and hike back to the pier only to be told that there are no more tickets. Cursing, then more cursing and even more cursing. Fine, ok, whatever. We walk back to the camp, set the bloody tent again. Next morning, we wake up a 5, pack the tent, walk tot the tent, hoping to find tickets for any of the boats that day. Guess what? No cigar, or in our case no tickets. They changed the system from the previous year so we had no clue that you could buy tickets in advance. We got bored and the prospect of spending another night sleeping in a tent was too awful so we found some guys with a speedboat and rode in style!

Also have you ever watched fireworks up close? Really, really close? Close as in burning parts falling 2 feet away from you? Oh, yeah…cool. And scary. But really, really cool. Made even cooler by the fact that it was also a moon eclipse at the same time. And that there were a lot of shooting stars(hence the title).

So, now for the movies:
The good: The Wave(Germany) was absolutely brilliant and I’d recommend you watch if you have the chance. I also liked the Lemon Tree(Israel).

The decent: It’s hard to be nice (Bosnia & Herzegovina)was ok-ish but I’m not sure I’d watch it again, Silent Light(Mexico), who also won the prize could have been a good movie but I didn’t make it to the end. It’s artsy and can be boring but I would like to make it to the end someday

The bad: Boogie(Romania) proved once again that we cannot make a decent movie to save our lives. It wasn’t as much bad as it was useless. Trust me, I spent 2 hours looking for the plot.

The ones I don’t have an opinion on: Egg(Turkey) and Help me Eros(Taiwan) were boring and we were tired so I think I watched 15, maybe 20 minutes out of each.

The short films were better. I liked a lot of them, with special mention for Bad habit little rabbit, The Yellow Smiley Face, Strawberries in April, Muli, Test and Cat-man-do(the last one is below…enjoy!).

Sorry, I’m still not exactly coherent right now so you’ll have to try to make sense of all that mumbo-jumbo.

Gods of ice cream, why do you tempt me?

Ok, you can assume that this will have something to with ice cream and you wouldn’t be that far off. You see, this really cool shop opened in my little corner of the world and they sell the most amazing ice cream ever(it almost rivals the one I ate in enormous quantities in Croatia) so of course, now I have 2 boxes of the stuff in my fridge. Actually I had to boxes because I kinda ate a whole one by myself, it’s just so good. I didn’t mean to, I swear I didn’t. I actually paused the movie to return it to its rightful place (and no, I am not conspicuously calling it the movie to deny the fact that I am watching Gilmore Girls for the billionth time). So, as I was saying, I paused the movie three times to go to the kitchen and put the box back in the fridge but every single bloody time I stopped to take just one more bite and after 30 seconds of standing next to the light switch I’d just decide that meh, more ice cream never killed anyone. And so I ate a full box of ice cream. I’m denying all responsibility for this and instead, like any normal person would do, I’m blaming it on the gods of ice cream, those fickle friends who must hate me or something. At least it wasn’t a really big box.

And, ah, I also noticed I like the same type of ice cream Dean likes: chocolate with something green on top: either mint or pistachio. And the green must be on top, I’d explain but then you’d think I’m crazy or something.

I just wrote a blog entry about me eating a full box of ice cream. Life is really boring and there must be something about “the movie” that makes me chatty. Huh, imagine that.

Can I write this off as a reward for getting halfway thru the first module in Chemistry?

*squeaks**hyperventilates**faints*

A friend found for me the unaired pilot for Gilmore Girls.

This is just so…perfect! I’m speechless and that doesn’t happen too often.

Would a 20-foot gold statue be too flashy?

P.S: Did any of you hover for just a second when you got out of bed this morning?

Thursday, July 31, 2008

Oh, no I’m not obsessed

Why do I always keep coming back to my obsessions? Might be cause life is totally and utterly boring lately. Seriously, I’d be excited if I found a patch of recent paint so I can watch it dry. That might explain my recent lack of blog posts. There is absolutely nothing to write about. A bit of a minor freak-out on the uni topic but I’m gonna blame that on PMS or something and be over with. I just want the summer to be over. Anyway less then 2 months left so it’s getting closer. I’ve even started going thru some chemistry notes so I deserve cookies for that effort. And because I actually wanted to brag: I spent 3 hours debating online if evolution a la Heroes is actually possible. Oh, yeah…you can shoot me. I blame it on the solar eclipse tomorrow. Also, I dug up my Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis CD just so I can take some screencaps and prove I’m not insane when I talk about the similarities(I saw Indy and the Kingdom again yesterday and I’m thinking of renting the other 3 this weekend). I’m pathetic.

Tell us about one book that changed your life

Blog roll tour

This is going to sound stupid but the book that changed my life was “The adventures of Sherlock Holmes: 12 short stories”. Bear with me while I explain this one. I first read that book when I was 7 or 8 and was immediately fascinated by this awesome man, who really knew everything. I did find out in “A study in scarlet” that he didn’t know absolutely everything, but that was beside the point. He could identify the type of cigar by looking and touching the ashes. He said outrageous things that always turned up to be true. He could play the violin. He is awesome(I have a bit of a crush on him, can you tell?). Of course, with Sherlock Holmes came the world of murder mysteries and forensics. I won’t start now detailing my obsession with that. Suffice to say that I have an impressing collection of true-crime books and I’ve watched way too many forensic shows(Discovery Channel, I will forever love you). And now I am on my way to university were I’m going to study forensic science. And it all started with that one Sherlock Holmes book.

I'm ubergeek

You know what it means to truly be a movie geek? To buy a magazine, jump up and down because someone really loves and the free DVD is Lars Von Trier’s Breaking the Waves, have a 10 minute internal debate whether you like this one or Europa more and then decide that you need to watch both again to make a decision and that since you’re already watching these you can add Dogville to the list to really make it a party. Open said magazine, see the article about Milos Forman, take 10 minutes to compile a mental top 5 of his movies(from number 5 to number 1: Man on the moon, Hair, Valmont, Amadaeus, One flew over the cuckoo’s nest). After this is done spend another 5 minutes trying to decide if the person who gave Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull 5 stars is an idiot and how come no one in the world seems to have notice that the movie is annoyingly similar to the old computer game Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis??? I still liked the movie but come on!!! Then debate if it’s possible for a series to rip itself off or if that would cause the world to implode.

And after all that is over find the article that says that M. Night Shaymalan has a new movie out and the reviewer says it’s the worst one yet and decided you mustmustmust see it now!

I have 70 days more of THIS?

The madness is getting worse. Animals are starting to run away scared every time they hear her voice. The dog shivers in the farthest corner of the yard. And I can’t hide so I must deal with the mom-monster. Gawds!, help me survive.

You might have guessed from that paragraph that the insanity is getting a wee-bit out of hand at my house. I have 2 months and a week until I leave for England and already my mother has decided that I need to start buying things because ohmylord I’m moving in the middle of nowhere and how could they possibly have anything there? Of course, this is the same woman who came with me to college the first time around just to buy me pots and pans ‘cause what if pwecious needed them? Well, mom, pwecious could buy her own pots and pans, trust me on that. I get it, it’s the whole empty nest thing(although she’s never shown an interest in my life…can you say dysfunctional family?) but come on! In the past 7 days I have had the following conversations:

Mom: “I saw these beautiful towels at store today.”
Me: “Ok.”
Mom: “I was thinking we could go by next week and you can pick some.”
Me: “For what? I don’t care if they’re neon purple and have elephants on them.”
Mom: “But they’re for university and I thought…”
Me: *chocking on drink** “They’re for what?”
Mom: “For you to take away with you when you leave.”
Me: “Mom, I am not carrying towels with me 3000 kilometers!”

Two days later:

Mom: “I was at *different store** today and I saw these sheets…”
Me: *watching some TV program while half-listening “Uh-huh…”
Mom: “And I thought I could get you some but they had flowers on them and I didn’t know if you’d like them.”
Me: “I already have sheets I like, why would I need more?”
Mom: “Well, not for here, obviously, but for when you leave.”
Me: “Mom, I am not carrying sheets with me 3000 kilometers!”

Another day later:

Mom: “And I was thinking you could take my umbrella, since it’s really nice or maybe we could go look for another one you liked….”
Me: “Mom, I am not carrying an umbrella with me 3000 kilometers!”

You get the point, right? Well, apparently she didn’t because this morning we had this conversation:

Mom: “And next week you should really start looking for things you have to buy.”
Me: “And what exactly do I have to buy?”
Mom: “Well some notebooks, and pens, and maybe some paper clips but no, wait I can get you those from my office and…”
“Me: "MOM, I AM NOT CARRYING OFFICE SUPPLIES WITH ME 3000 KILOMETERS!!!”

And nope, this is not mom trying to spend more time with me. She is convinced that I need all these things(and lord knows what else).

Of course, we now also have the family joke about me taking the giant electric tea kettle with me…and I’m only have sure she’s joking.

I has a new hobby

(and a slight obsession with lolcats). So last night I decided that it was time I found something to do. And since doing something useful or worthwhile is out of the question I decided to try my hand at origami. Nothing too complicated for now, I’m sticking to paper cranes. But since I know your life would be empty without my art, here are pictures:

All my cranes (for now):

A scale from smallest to largest(except the silver one, the other ones were made from one piece of paper):

And the baby:

Oh, I get it…

You exist solely to annoy me, don’t you?

It’s 8AM. I was shocked to find out there is an 8 in the morning, but oh, well. So it’s 8AM and I’m home, drinking ice coffee and watching the news before I go out and pretend to be coherent and sane while I deal with the various nuisances associated with life. The phone rings.

Idiot: “Hey!”
Me: “’Morning.”
I: “Oh, you’re up!”
Well, judging by the fact that I’m talking to you it might be an intelligent assumption, don’t ya think?
M: “Yes.”
I: “Good…what are you doing?”
M: “Drinking ice coffee and watching the news.” What can I say…I’m Captain Obvious in the mornings.
I: “You’re drinking ice coffee?” Insert really shocked tone here.
M: “Yes.”
I: “But it’s cold outside.”
M: “But I’m not outside.”
I: “So what? It’s still cold. You should drink normal coffee.”
M: “Why?” Oh, I had to ask, right? I just had to.
I: “Because it’s cold outside!” Really? It’s cold outside? Why didn’t you say so???
M: “So what does the cold outside have to do with my ice coffee?”
I: “You shouldn’t drink cold things if it’s cold. You’re going to catch a cold.”
M: “But I am not outside! I’m inside and it’s not cold inside!”
I: “You still shouldn’t.”

Are people really this stupid or am I just unlucky enough to know all the morons of the world? Sheesh.

Oh, and by the way, dear saleslady at the purse store yesterday(I got a new and really cool messenger bag…heck, yeah!) it really makes me feel special when the other saleslady is wishing the customer 5 inches away from me a “good day” and various other pleasantries and you stare at me like I just killed your puppy. Really. I shut up when I was at the counter. I talked to your manager later. Enjoy.

Learning experience

I went to the museum today and stumbled over an exhibit about bats. There was exactly one bat there but here is what I got to see instead:

I think this was supposed to be a witch(there was a bad skeleton in the cauldron):

Of course, the we have the ever popular Dracula(notice the...umm...boobs :P ):

And just when you thought it couldn't get any worse...you get this:

Sadly, no Bat Boy but still...*sigh*.

You’re hilarious…now stop!

I think I’m getting old because I have a feeling that I’ve talked about this here before but for the life of me I can’t remember when and where or if I only planned to write this and forgot. Anyway, I have a complaint to make. Why do people feel the need to butt in when it comes to my choice of university? I swear, I’ve heard the same questions so many times I’m ready to attack the next person with an umbrella(you’ll get this in a minute). So, here is a recap of what questions you shouldn’t ask if you value your sanity and physical integrity.

“Why didn’t you go somewhere in the States?”
I have my reasons and this was a well thought of decision(way over thought in fact but hey, it’s me). And don’t you think that 12 hours on the road is enough(yes, from my home town and not including the waiting in airport/bus station it adds up to almost that)? Do I need to cross an ocean to get away from you?

“Oh...Leicester University…I’ve never heard of it…is it any good?”
Well, no, Pinhead, I just chose it because it looked pretty. Do you want me to pull out the league tables? Huh? Do you, punk?

Corollary to the above “Why didn’t you go to Oxford/Cambridge?”
Because they don’t have my course. Because I would have had to spend a lot of money getting there for the exams. Because I didn’t want to.

“Well then why didn’t you go somewhere in London?”
Because I wanted a real campus(I’m a bit bummed that the halls aren’t in the same place as the uni so in London…yeah). Because London is bloody expensive. Because I didn’t want to.

And of course we have the ever popular one “Why couldn’t you just pick something here?”
Have you met my family? 1500 miles is probably not far enough. I value my sanity. And because most unis here are crap.

After we get thru these absolutely brilliant questions we have the funny comments. Well, the one funny comment. I can deal with is “You’re going there just because you like men with a British accent.” Heck, I’ve said it many times…I don’t like a British accent, I love a British accent. But the other ones…Oh, my lord, who in creation would have thought that it rains in England??? Well, I’ve never… Seriously, people insist on informing me that it rains in England. Nah…really? I’ve started a point system. If they just say something about me having to get used to the rain, they get a point. If they point to umbrellas and tell me I should really consider getting one(why would I drag an umbrella halfway across the continent? I’m sure they sell them there) they get 2 points. If they actually buy me an umbrella they get 3 points, are declared winners and receiver a sarcastic comment and an umbrella shoved up their…you get where this is going, right? I have 5 umbrellas right now. Help me, it’s gonna be a loooooooooong 3 months.

Just one of those days…

I have a headache. It’s been raining all day, leaking thru the roof and dripping on my ceiling, making my headache worse. I should have gone for coffee with a friend but I ended up not going. My mother is driving me crazy. My bank can’t issue a check book for my type of account, adding so many straws to my camel’s back that it’s thisclose to breaking but it would just be an immense hassle and a waste of money to do so now. I need to solve this for uni but I just can’t get a check in pounds. I got my final accommodation letter today so I know where I’ll be staying come September but for some reason I can’t be happy about it. The nagging feeling that comes from past experience won’t go away. Things are just adding up and I’m stressing out. Could someone send a Mojito, some chocolate and a hug my way?

Stupid comment of the month

I was outside yesterday, reading a book and generally wasting time. Mom comes outside.

Mom: What are you reading?
Me: Jane Eyre.
Mom:That doesn't look like our book.
Me: It's not. This one's in English. The other one is in the living room.
Mom: Oh...you can read in English?

*headdesk*

I did mention that I' moving to, you know...England, in less then 3 months, right?

Never again…

…Will I bash a movie before seeing it.* I finally got around to seeing Pathology yesterday and I liked it. I expected to like it because it should have been a cheesy horror movie that made me laugh and instead I got a decent thriller. Ok, so there are a few things that irked me but I won’t go into details here because I don’t want to spoil it for anyone who hasn’t seen it yet(but only a couple and not during the movie, but after, when I started thinking about it). A few sex scenes and quite a bit of gore and blood but the movie is called Pathology so it’s not like I didn’t expect that. All in all a good movie, especially considering the trash that comes out these days. And let’s just say that if this obsessed fan girl decided that Milo’s naked ass(but damn, boy! *drools*) wasn’t the best part of the movie it’s worth the watch.

*This does not apply to any movie Paris Hilton might make. I reserve my right to bash those mercilessly even without seeing them.

Dear ladies at the store...

Dear ladies at the store,

When you saw that I had been standing in the same place for at least 10 minutes, couldn't it have occurred to you that I might actually want to buy something? I understand that your conversation about the best way to make chicken soup was absolutely vital but one of you could have spared a minute to ask me if I needed something, even if not for my sake but for the lady at the counter who was trying to juggle 3 customers. Also, when the boss finally came and you moved your butts to work and asked me what I wanted and I said I wanted that fan, I really didn't appreciate the raised eyebrow and "You want to buy it?" question. No, I want to hug it and call it mommy. I was dressed nicely and I had money. If you think it is beneath you to sell fans then take them out of the store or find a new job. And after I assured that I indeed wanted to buy it, maybe one of you could have helped me instead of sending me to the front of the store, to wait for the cashier. You are obligated to show me that the product I'm buying works. That's why you are there and that's what you are paid for. I'm sure the cashier appreciated having to do all that for me. So thank you. Until today I had only had pleasant experiences at your store but I guess that you honestly wanted me to have a story to share when other people are talking about the awful customer service you have. Please be sure that I won't be coming back any time soon.

Why in the name of…?

I said on Monday that I was going to start booking stuff for England. Guess what…I didn’t. But I have a really good explanation: I said I was going to start when I have just 3 months left and since I’ve decided that I’m no longer leaving on the 23rd and instead on the 25th…well there you go. Ok, so tonight I got an unusual shot of energy and so I wanted to book things. Mainly my plane ticket. Guess what? I cannot buy one because I do not have a credit card. I do however, have a debit card, which has money on it but I can’t use that because…? Nope, I can’t think of a reason. People, charge me now, I don’t mind just let me buy my damned ticket, will you? Let’s rationalize this for a second…if I had a credit card, I could buy one, even if you technically don’t have actual money in that account and you may have an overdraft of hundreds of dollars but if you have a debit card, with money on it, you can’t. Argh! Who the fuck thought of that? I swear, I’ll tick boxes, you can take my money now, I have no problem with that but could you pretty please let me buy my ticket? Let me further rant on their stupidity. British Airways lets people who leave from the UK buy tickets online use debit cards, but no one coming from the outside. Ok, I can deal. But then why doesn’t our national airline do the same? So now, I must spend quite a lot of time this week(because last time I postponed the price of tickets went up)tracking down a travel agency and buying a ticket from them(and I have never had a pleasant experience with a travel agency in my town). Joy of joys. Did I mention that temperatures around here are well in the 90s so walking is going to be a pure pleasure…

So why in the name of all things holy can’t they let me buy my ticket???

It's a conspiracy, I tell you! They're out to get me :D !

Croatia(and Venice) in pictures

Over the hills and far awaaaay

La,la,la

La,la,la

That's amoooooreeeee

Somewhere, over the rainbow

Way up high

There's a land that I've heard of

Once in a lullaby

Somewhere over the rainbow

Skies are blue

And the dreams that you dare to dream

Really do come true
