Things I learned today

Putting as many marshmallows as possible in a cup of hot chocolate, while it may sound like a good idea, is disgusting. Really, really disgusting.

Spilling said hot chocolate on your hands burns.

Burns hurt. I knew this already but apparently a refresher course was needed.

Everything is better when there is ice cream.

Saying “Tonight I really am going to bed early” is tempting fate.

There is no going to bed early for university students.

No matter how far away you are people will still call you to complain that their computers don't work.

Plane tickets are bloody expensive.

Lab reports do not write themselves up, no matter how much you wish they did.

Oh, yeah, lab reports suck.

Dr. Martens are the greatest, most awesome, most amazing, most anything shoes ever.

If you hug your shoes people will think you're weird.

Weird is apparently the synonym for cool at uni.

Too many toffee apples are bad for you.

So is chasing people with said toffee apples.

And being chased with toffee apples.

Toffee stains will never get out of clothes.

But that's ok because Primark rules.

Sleep is overrated.

Monty Python and the Holy Grail is the greatest kitchen film night ever.

Uni rules.

Old

You know what's it like to feel really old? But really, really old? When you're talking about movies with someone(Steve, if you remember him) and that someone asks this: “So, you actually saw that film in the theatre? I was too young to go. Were people actually crying?”

It only gets worse from here...

(And the movie in question was Titanic, in case you were curious).

A few pictures

I'll write a longer blog post later today or tomorrow detailing my lack of plot and love of Starbucks but for now some pictures I took yesterday:

The chemistry building, where I spend way too much time each day(lately if I don't have classes I'm in the chem library. Yes, I'm sad).It looks worse in reality.

And another one of the chemistry building, from the bus station where the bus that goes to town goes(the que across the street is where the bus for the halls stops). And if you look on the left of the picture you'll see the building were genetic fingerprinting was invented. Cool, isn't it?

And the last one, the cemetary across the street from my uni(yes, we have a cemetary across the street).

Movie night

Tonight I was supposed to go to a Chemistry society meeting but seeing as they forgot to email people with the “when and where” they're meeting...I hope they had fun. And right now I'm supposed to be sleeping. Seeing as it's 3.30 AM and I have to wake up early tomorrow and write my lab report(I'd write it tonight but I'm lazy and I've been drinking so it might not be my best work ever). So yeah, instead of the ChemSoc meeting I had a film night with the guy I usually sit next to in class(sheesh...I should really start giving out nicknames...how about I call him Steve from now on?). We tried to watch “The Exorcist” but we mostly ended up talking. And to think I didn't go to the EEuSoc(Eastern European Society) bar crawl because I wanted to sleep tonight. Oh, well. Steve's nice. And I'm adopting Nano newbies. I love Nano newbies. Of course, I still don't have a plot but I think I can find some free time tomorrow or Friday and go to my cafĂ© or maybe even a Starbucks and try to conjure one. Right now I have a slut and a haunted house which will probably not make the cut for this year's novel.

But I'm staying away from Nano talk right now because I have to complain. You know how bad the coffee is on campus? Seriously, it's bad. As in really bad. As in “I'd rather have instant coffee back in the halls then that” bad. Of course I still drink it because with morning classes I'd be dead without coffee and there's no way in hell I'm waking up before I have to to make coffee but if I take the whatever.10 bus I have time to drink a cup on the bench in front of the chemistry building. But it's still bad. Gah. I need good coffee.

Over and out...I'm going back to my lab report.

Send comments. I'm feeling ignored.

A plot!My kingdom for a plot!

It's October and you know what that means...it's almost time for NaNoWriMo! *heavy sighs from the audience* Now, those of you who were here last year might remember that I am not exactly in the best or sanest of moods during nano. So yeah, this is going to be hilarious. The great part is that this year I have a nano group near me, so I can go to meetings and stuff, which hopefully will keep me a bit saner then last year and that I am adopting some newbies to help thru this. The bad part is that this year I have uni and some flatmates who might just start running once they see me walking around the kitchen, talking to my characters and having my 20th cup of coffee of the day. Or maybe call the men in white coats to take me away.

And oh, yeah, I still don't have a plot. Oh this is gonna be fun

Give me more hours in a day!

I have no idea where all my time goes. I'm sorry. I'm trying. The time eating monster is after me. First comes the “How I played with a sword” story and then the boring update(and a couple of pictures! I actually have some pictures this time! Exciting, ain't it?).

Soooo....I went to the Viking meeting last Sunday. I had fun(no pictures of that, sorry, but I did get to wear a huge metal helmet padded with smelly fur on the inside. I don't recommend it). Now, you all know I am not exactly the sanest person in the whole wide world. Not by far. What you didn't know is that I am probably the only person in the whole wide world who thinks sword fighting is boring. I wanted to pull out a book while training. It was that boring. But the great part is that we also did archery training and I loved that. Just call me Wilhelm Tell! I even have battle wounds(yes, still do, despite the fact that this was 5 days ago). You know why archers wear those big leather thingies on their hands when they're shooting? Neither did I before last Sunday, don't worry( I'm talking about these, people). Because apparently if you don't wear them or if you are like me, and wear a short one, you get bruised when the string of the bow goes back after you shoot. You live and learn. I've been showing my war wounds to random people(no, I'm not going around and showing strangers my bruise...it's more like “And how with the Vikings?” “Great, wannaseemybruisedoyoudoyoudoyou?”. They might think I'm disturbed. Sadly that was my only training so far because apparently they like to work chemistry students and the Vikings were preparing the sword fighters for the battle tomorrow. Maybe next week(and don't worry, I'm not going to post pictures of my bruises here-although I have some. That's disgusting even for me).

I wrote my first lab report this week. It wasn't so bad. If only Julya(my melting point machine, of course) didn't hate me. It's hard to explain(well, not hard but long and I am too lazy to type it all up and plus it's quite boring). Suffice to say I spent 2 and a half hours out of three and a half hours watching tiny tubes filled with substances with impossible names and waiting for them to melt. My life is so exciting. The other hour was spent trying to get substances with the impossible names into tiny tubes. *sings “Don't you wish your life was hot like mine?”*

Nothing else exciting is happening. I'm not sure I have time for anything to happen. I bought ear plugs and then remembered I hate ear plugs. I'm probably gonna go tomorrow and take a walk around the city so there might be some more pictures. If I gte up too late I'll just leave it for Sunday. Or Tuesday(Mondays are crazy.)

And now for the three pictures you have all been waiting for!

But to get them, we shall play a guessing game! Gather round, children!

Who can guess what was the first thing I bought in England? Come on, don't be shy! I won't stick you in the melting point machine if you get it wrong, I promise. Any guesses? Scroll down for the answer!

.Well done! Of course it was coffee!

And now for your prize(clicks make them bigger...it's magic or something). This is Victoria Park, the absolutely lovely place that is right next to my uni. Jealous?

(I don't really like how this picture turned out but I'm posting it anyway so you can see my uni and the three towers. The one in the middle supposedly looks like a cheese grater. I wonder how many beers you have to drink before you can see that one!)

This is the perfect place if you want to read in the grass or watch big guys playing sports. For the love of the sports, of course, nothing more!

And this is one of the paths...lovely, isn't it?

Hello, my name is Addie...

And I'm a movieholic. *crowd mumbles “Hello, Addie!”*

I swear I don't mean to. I'm trying to be good. But how can I when they have a huge sale at HMV and I had a student discount? I finally understand the magic of sales. Especially when on sale is the “Jack Nicholson collection: the early years”. Which includes “The wild ride”!!! Not excited? Weirdos....

Of course, I think my flatmates think I'm the weirdo. I keep bringing home bags from HMV and being my usual self...yeah, that doesn't work that well. Apparently it's not normal to buy 10 tiny boxes of chocolate stuff(6 of chocolate mousse and 4 of chocolate pudding). They claim to be chocolate lovers but they do not understand...The love for chocolate...it burns. That and the fact that the chocolate pudding is 4 for 46p at ASDA. How can I say no to that? Especially after I've spent 100£ on books...Damned school, it's taking away all my money. They also think it's shocking that someone can live of peanut butter and frozen meals. So I tried to prove them wrong and today I bought noodles. You know, just add hot water stuff. Even I can cook that. Oh, and toast. I also cook toast. A lot of toast. Well, I'm just ready to be married, aren't I? With such great cooking skills...*

Ah, also I went to my first Viking society meeting on Thursday. They're really nice and they quote Monty Python like crazy. I think I'm gonna fit right in. Tomorrow I have my first training session and, if all goes well next week, I might actually get to be in a battle next weekend! How exciting is that? I'll try not to have my eyes poked out(you don't want to know...trust me). I'll see if they let me try on the gear tomorrow and if they do, maybe have someone snap a picture so I can post it(yes, I know I keep saying that I'm going to post pictures but seriously, I have no clue where all my time goes. It's odd. Contact Agent Mulder.)

On Monday I have my first chemistry lab which should be exciting. I won't get to play with any chemicals just yet so don't worry. However, starting week 3(so the 13th I think), if you see a cloud of smoke over Leicester or you hear on the news about an explosion...I'm sorry. I didn't mean to.

Over and out.

*the room mates refers to, in this paragraph, to the really nice Latvian girl, who really likes healthy food(as in she's been here a week and already knows where to buy vegetables and fruit cheap) and the Cypriot girl, who doesn't quite get my love of chocolate. The English girl is still gone 20 hours a day and apparently a noodles fan as well because I think the other two would rather die then eat that stuff. They're quite good actually.
